Happy Halloween from the team here at Foote Family Dental Care!
Although we all love Halloween, it’s no secret that too much sugar & healthy teeth just don’t mix!
Here’s some tips for keeping your dental health in check this Halloween:
1. Choose The Right Candy
When choosing which candy to indulge in today, try avoiding the harder and stickier candies that stay in your mouth for longer periods of time. The longer the time sugary food stays in your mouth, the more likely it is to lead to tooth decay.
2. Time Your Eating
Try eating your candy and other sugary foods with your dinner or shortly after. Your saliva production increases during meals, which helps to cancel out acids produced by bacteria in your mouth and rinse away the food particles.
3. Avoid Sugary Drinks
When your teeth come into frequent contact with sugary beverages there is more risk of developing cavities. Being that you will most likely be eating candy today, you can cut back some of that sugar in your drinks. Try to cut back on any unnecessary sugar intake today – our teeth & dentist 😉 will thank you!
4. Chew Sugarless Gum
Chewing ADA approved sugarless gum for 20 minutes after meals helps increase saliva flow and reduce the risk of tooth decay. To find out more about how to find gum with the ADA seal, click here.
5. Make Sure To Clean Your Teeth
Last and certainly not least, make sure to brush and floss teeth today – and every day!
We hope you enjoy your Halloween!
